New Year, New Minimum Wage

For the past several years, California has increased its minimum wages. Previously, California had separate minimum wages depending on the size of the employer (over or under 25 employees). In 2023, California has stuck with its annual minimum wage increase but has done away with the variance based on employee headcount.

Starting today, January 1, 2023, all employees in California must earn a minimum of $15.50 per hour, regardless of the size of the employer. Many California cities and municipalities have even higher minimum wages, including Los Angeles, Malibu, Pasadena, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and more.

California employees should review their wage statements to make sure they are receiving the appropriate wages they are entitled to.
